Is the new Porsche Taycan, which costs more, superior to the Tesla Model S? To determine the solution, we compare them both impartially.
Porsche has presented a redesigned 2025 Taycan pure-electric vehicle with new style, electric motors, a larger battery, greater power, and additional refinement for quicker charging. Porsche has also unveiled the Taycan Turbo GT, which outperformed the Tesla Model S Plaid on the Nurburgring lap time. However, the regular Taycan delivers amazing performance; how does it compare to the standard Tesla Model S? To determine this, we compare two electric four-door cars.
Porsche Taycan Vs Tesla Model S: Performance And Capability
The 2025 Porsche Taycan and Taycan 4S come standard with an 89 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, which can be upgraded to a 105 kWh pack for increased range. The Taycan’s standard model has a single permanent magnet synchronous motor positioned on the back wheel, as well as a 2-speed gearbox for increased efficiency. The Taycan 4S adds another electric motor to the front axle to provide all-wheel drive. However, the front motor uses a single-speed direct drive arrangement.
The Tesla Model S comes standard with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive system, which includes two permanent magnet synchronous motors, however both employ a single-speed direct drive system. The battery of the Model S is said to be a 100 kWh lithium-ion pa

While the Model S Plaid is the quickest Tesla available, the basic Model S is still faster than the Taycan, taking 3.1 seconds. Although the Tesla Model S has a peak speed of 130 mph, the Taycan 4S can achieve 155 mph.
Fuel Economy
The new 2025 Taycan has not been approved by the EPA for economy or range. However, Porsche claims the updated Taycan can travel up to 364 kilometers on a single charge, although on the generous European WLTP cycle. However, the EPA has rated the base Model S at up to 405 miles. In terms of fuel efficiency, the Model S is predicted to get 120 MPGe combined.

Interior Design And Technology
The Taycan’s interior has up to four displays and is entirely free of traditional switches and buttons. All of the car dynamics and HVAC systems are controlled from the bottom touchscreen on the center console. The menus and interface take some time to get used to. The low-slung form makes it difficult to get into and out of the car, particularly in the back. The sloping roofline also reduces the vehicle’s back headroom. However, the Taycan’s outward view is excellent; even with a narrow rear window, rear sight is unobstructed.
The controversial Tesla yoke was launched with the Model S Plaid, and while it has since been replaced as standard with a regular wheel, it is still available as an option for the Model S. The loss of indicator and wiper stalks, as well as the features now incorporated into the steering wheel, making it confusing to use. The menu arrangement of the infotainment system is difficult to use, particularly when driving. Space in the Model S is decent for a mid-size car, but not abundant. The glass roof provides plenty of headroom in the interior, although the back seats might feel tight on extended rides.
Porsche Taycan Vs. Tesla Model S Technology Comparison
The Porsche Taycan comes standard with a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as navigation. The driver also features a 16.8-inch completely digital curved instrument panel, which replicates the original Porsche gauge cluster. The Taycan’s center console also features a touchscreen panel for controlling different car functions. Porsche also provides a touchscreen on the dash in front of the front passenger as an option.
The Model S features a big 17-inch touchscreen infotainment system. The touchscreen allows you to navigate using Google Maps. However, none of Tesla’s vehicles are equipped with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. The Model S’s sleek cabin is free of buttons and switches, with even the car’s gear selection operated by touchscreen. The driver also includes a digital gauge cluster as standard. Tesla also includes a back entertainment screen that serves as a game console, as well as wireless smartphone chargers and a Wi-Fi hotspot.
Interior Room And Cargo Capacity
The Taycan’s sleek, swooping look is undeniably appealing, but one of the downsides of Porsche’s four-door electric sedan is a lack of luggage room. The Porsche Taycan’s basic load capacity is 14.3 cubic feet, which can be increased to 42.8 cubic feet by folding the rear seats. However, the Tesla Model S has a bigger base cargo area of 25 cubic feet, which can be expanded to 61.4 cubic feet. Even the Taycan’s 2.9 cu ft trunk is smaller than the Model S’s 3.1 cu ft trunk.

Safety and dependability
The NHTSA and IIHS have not crash tested the new 2025 Porsche Taycan. However, the Tesla Model S was last tested in 2017. Because the Model S has not undergone any substantial alterations since, the findings apply to the 2024 model as well. At the time, the IIHS gave the Tesla Model S an overall ‘Acceptable’ grade.
